Chicagoans can continue their Cinco de Mayo celebrations at this year’s second annual Mole de Mayo outdoor festival on Saturday, May 8th . The Mole de Mayo Festival will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at El Zocalo Plaza at 18th Street and Paulina in Pilsen, the heart of Chicago’s Mexican community. The event is being organized by the ESDC, a non-profit organization that has been serving the Pilsen neighborhood for over 30 years.
The Mole cook off will include a variety of restaurants from Pilsen and the Chicago region have signed up to compete including; Fogata Village (Best Mole Award Champion 2009), Fig Catering, Lalo’s on Maxwell, DeColores Restaurant, La Esperanza, Mundial Cocina Mestiza, Nuevo Leon (People’s Choice Award 2009), Real Tenochtitlan and Zocalo. In addition to sampling the mole and other food specialties, vendors will also be selling Micheladas (Mexican-style Bloody Marys) and Miller Lite Beer. Participants will also have the opportunity to shop at the outdoor Mercado/Market that will be filled with local Pilsen businesses. A variety of live entertainment will fill the day and will feature Lucha Libre Wrestlers, Mariachis and new this year, Pro Arts Circus Group.

When: Saturday, May 8th – from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Where: EL Zocalo Plaza, 18th Street & Paulina (CTA Pink Line Stop, Paulina)
Cost: $1 Entrance Fee
Celebrity Panel Judging: 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Mole Trophy Winner Presentation: 3:00 p.m.
Peoples Choice Award Trophy Presentation: 6:30 p.m.
